What’s your favorite food to eat at Thanksgiving? Mashed potatoes? Mine too! Well if you ask a 4 year old, you quickly learn that everyone has a different idea of thanksgiving dinner! Cue the Thanksgiving Dinner Dance! 🙂 Here are some ideas:
1) Turkey: See how many ways you can walk like a turkey. Ask each student to come up with a different way their turkey would walk. Then have the whole class try a few!
2) Mashed potatoes: We have been working on the movement quality smooth, so mashed potatoes is the perfect visual. You can even play it up a little and pick the potatoes, mash them up with different body parts and swirl them around.
3) Remember the Fruit Tree Dance? Add cranberries to the tree!
4) Vegetables: Green beans, make straight shapes and jump. Peas, make round shapes and roll. Divide the class in half and
and have some be beans and some be peas.
5) and of course pie!
Another idea I wanted to try this week is Parade Balloons. The balloon dance is my favorite and we already know how to float, so I thought it might be fun to pretend we are in the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Everyone gets to pick an animal for their balloon and we take turns floating that animal shape around the room making a parade! Doesn’t it sound fun? I would love to hear if you try it.
Here are a few more thanksgiving dances you might want to try:
Turkey Pokey
Turkey Song +Dance
Plus! Native American Dances from Dance Advantage.
Do you have any favorite dances you do around Thanksgiving? I would love to hear and try them out!
