These Are A Few Of The Things That I Love…

This month’s Dance Advantage Circle Time topic is The (Dance) Things I Love. I have been thinking about what to write in this post all month! I kept asking my husband, I need to think about some dance things that I love. He was like “ummm, dance is your life, you surely can think of something.” :) Sooo here it is… Continue reading These Are A Few Of The Things That I Love…

Airplane Dance

On Saturday almost every one of my students told me that they were flying to a place this week for vacation. Then I promptly said “If I get really small, can I crawl into your suitcase?” They giggled and smiled! :) I then had the idea that if they are all flying somewhere we should do an airplane dance! Here are some ideas if you find yourself in the same boat (?)… plane. Continue reading Airplane Dance

6 Goals To Set For Your Littles: AKA My Hidden Agenda

Setting goals is a huge topic. When I think of my own goals, I think of how many I have accomplished since graduating college. I also think of how many more I want to accomplish. Eeek, makes my head hurt! If you ask my husband, he says I have a new goal every week! He’s right, it is just in my nature to be ambitious. It’s good to have goals, but sometimes I dwell and think about them too much; I’m still working on the balance. Continue reading 6 Goals To Set For Your Littles: AKA My Hidden Agenda

What Would You Do If Your Boys Wore Tutus?

Have you heard about the book My Princess Boy? A mom wrote it about her little boy who wanted to wear dresses and jewelry instead of pants and baseball caps. Educators Versus Instructors: Why Not All Creative Movement Teachers are Equal

Today is a guest post from online friend and blogger Heather Vaughan- Southard. You can visit her blog here. Enjoy!

As educators, we strive to guide our students to a place of independent thinking, thoughtful analysis, and reflective response, all leading directly to confidence in ability, action, and presence. Yet, many dance studios offer creative movement classes taught by their most “advanced” teen-aged dancers. Tiptoeing

Question for you. Do you ever have students in your dance classes who walk on their toes? And I don’t mean when you ask them to rise up on their toes. I mean all the time. Always tiptoeing. I have heard (and read) that it can be compared to sucking their thumb and they should grow out of it in 2-3 months when they are young. I also read that it could be a tight achilies tendon or signs of cerebral palsy. Those are both very different. Continue reading Tiptoeing
