My readers know how much I love my drum, right? If I ever lost it, I think I would have to cancel my classes. Ok, that’s a bit dramatic, but honestly my drum is a part of teacher me!
This semester I sought out to find something I might like just as much. You know, to expand my repertoire. I thought I would try rhythm sticks since I found a box of them in my closet. I have taught with them before, but I wanted to use these sticks in place of the drum. I wanted to use them as a teaching tool, not just a prop.
So we did chasse and counting with the sticks. I did the rhythm and they counted. We did 8, 4, 2, and 1. The sticks are a little softer then the drum which is a nice change and challenge for my littles. They really had to concentrate and listen to stay on the rhythm.
I really loved changing it up a bit and I think my littles did too! Do you use sticks to teach? I would love to keep experimenting with new instruments. I know I have a triangle too, that one is up next! 🙂
