Farmers Market Dance

Munch n’ Move #6 by guest Joanie Johnson from Motivated Nutrition. I can’t wait to try this dance with my students! Enjoy!

I know my students are the ones that are responsible for buying groceries at home, but I always like to put a healthy bug in their ear to take home to mom and dad! It’s a perfect time of year to make a creative dance around the theme of shopping at the farmers market and enjoying fresh, whole foods. Many children have only experienced shopping for fruits and veggies at the grocery store and they don’t understand the amount of work, love and devotion that goes into planting, growing, and harvesting the food we eat. I use a game called Farmers Market to introduce them to the concept. It uses the movement skills of locomotors, shaping, size, levels, role modeling and it’s also an easy introduction to partnering. Jump, Frog, Jump!

Read It. Move It. Share It. is a collaboration with Kerry from Picture Books and Pirouettes. Once a month Kerry recommends a book for me to use in my creative movement classes. Then I write a post on what I did with the book and how I used it with the kids in hopes of giving you some ideas to use in your classes! Here is the June book. Enjoy!

First, jump over here and read the review of this book. Then jump back here to read how I used the book in creative dance class! Continue reading Jump, Frog, Jump!

Twister For The Dance Room

This year I have been obsessed with colors and group shapes. It’s been really fun using colors as a way to manage things in the room. It has also been fun teaching my students to share and work together. I was inspired by the game Twister and thought I would add something more to my warm-up with this little game. I used it with 5′s and 6′s. Here’s how you play: Continue reading Twister For The Dance Room
